This subwoofer is fantastic! The bass sounds fill the room and reverberates beautifully. Just what I was hoping for. A great sound!

5 out of 5 stars Precise Bass with a lot of controls - Great for movies   December 14, 2009

I have come to enjoy the wall-rumbling bass that it generates while watching action-movies. The audessey room-correction/speaker calibration system rightly selected LFE frequency of 100 Hz. I was initially unsure how it would sound since it has 2 relatively small 8 inch drivers but the dual 8 inch drivers seems to compensate for the size. The bass is natural, deep and precise - it doesn't get muddy - does not distort at high volumes. For the money, you get a lot of controls such as phase-control, volume control (or input trim), room compensation depending on the location in the room, balanced separate center-front-left XLR connectors, etc.

Some of the cons that I don't think project anything negative about the sub is that, it is huge, it is heavy, I do not prefer it (or maybe any other sub) for listening to music since it becomes overwhelming for me as I already have full-range speakers. So for music-listening only I turn it down way too low. The only thing you should reconsider when buying this sub is that it has relatively small frequency range of 28 to 100 Hz - so it may not blend in very well with set of tiny-speakers, such as 5.1 or 7.1 system comprising of tiny satellite speakers. You need at least 20 Hz of overlap from upper limit of sub's frequency range to that of lower limit of your satellite speakers.

I haven't found similarly priced good quality subwoofer to come with a cable - so I cannot take a star off from its rating. Besides, a 10-ft long XLR to RCA cable only costs $8 from [...] - great online retailer for high-quality professional music equipment.

All in all, I have enjoyed this subwoofer for last 2 months and I don't mind its size. You might want to check-up on it before ordering it.

4 out of 5 stars Better than expected   December 13, 2009

Wanted to upgrade my sub for around $200. This seemed to be a lot of sub for the money, especially considering it weighs 75 pounds. Make sure you have the room for this beast. It's like a solid brick side table. Also make sure you get a XLR to RCA cable to hook it to your home system. This thing is made for studio use, but works well in my larger family room. I have had it for about 3 months now and I am very happy with it. No problems at all. The sound is not boomy, just a nice rich sound that blends well with my other Polk speakers in a 7.1 setup. I gave it 4 stars since I had to buy my own cable, and it's just a beast to move around. I don't think I will ever move it until it dies, and being built like a tank I expect it to last a long time. I would recommend buying this given you have the room.

2 out of 5 stars Not going to recommend this Subwoofer.   November 30, 2009

I bought this subwoofer, and after getting this, it is HUGE for having just TWO 8" woofers in it, POPS most of the time, no matter WHAT the EQ settings are, and, after all this, overheats after a short period of time. I cannot recommend this to anyone, sorry to say.
